Doesn't compare to Pillars of the Earth but served me well during my work commute. Reader was excellent, and the parts of the story around two of the characters was very good, others not so much.

This book felt like a porny Downton Abbey. Fascinating historical overview, but Follett's juxtaposition of a modern, explicitly narrated sexual ethos with historical events was rather jarring. Loved the narrator.

Loved this book! I am a big fan of Ken Follett and he has outdone himself. I love history and particularly the last century's conflicts but did not know a great deal of WW1. He made it so interesting and the narration is excellent. …

John Lee's reading of this book is as outstanding as Follet's writing. Lee uses different accents so one really gets a feel for the book's content. A great read.

I took it to Mexico on my ereader and it was a great beach/pool read. I learnt alot of history about that time period.
