Lucero-Elisa de Riqueza, the princess of Orovalle, is also the carrier of the only living Godstone, which has been nothing but a mystery to her since it appeared in her navel at her birthing ceremony. 16-year-old Elisa encounters strange,…

The first book in the amazing trilogy that will grab your attention from the first pages. While a coming-of-age story in its essence, the trilogy (second book titled “The Crown of Embers” and third – “The Bitter Kingdom”), will delight you…

I found this book by chance and I was hooked from the start. It was full of action and suspense from the start and i can’t wait for the next book. Well worth the read.

I surprisingly enjoyed this... At first I was quite annoyed, Elisa was insufferable... absolutely so. I understand that she was only sixteen but man was she stupid, I suppose naive might be a better word, but seriously. Like she just…

I think someone mentioned this book commenting on an N. K. Jemison book. So glad they did, as I loved it! It reminded me a lot of The Blue Sword, by Robin McKinley. I devoured it and am now blitzing through the 2nd one.

I definitely enjoyed this book... but mostly I'm wondering why the cover has a thin white girl on it when the main character is very clearly, repeatedly stated as dark-skinned and chubby/not thin? Doesn't detract from the content, but I'm…

Awesome story - hard to put down. No graphic love scenes, just one kiss, so appropriate for tweens.

I enjoyed this book. It is very unique and unlike any other book I have read. It had a sort of "girl power" theme going on and I loved it.

This was a fantastic start to the series! I found it very unique for 3 main reasons. One, it had a religious main character and religious themes that were not offensive and weren't the main plot. Two, it was a great fantasy book and the…

I loved this series and would highly recommend it. I read through all three books in a week!

I loved watching Elisa journey from a sad, pampered girl to a woman growing into her own skin. I enjoyed the world that Carson built as both familiar, but so different at the same time. I put the 2nd book on hold before I even finished the…

I had heard some good things about this book and wanted to read it as newer books in the series are out. It was okay. The heroine turns out to be a 16 year old who carries a godstone that she know nothing about, gets married off to a…

In general, a pretty good first book for a fantasy trilogy. I enjoyed the latin feel - including the use of Spanish (or at least a Spanish-influenced language). I also enjoyed the fact that Elisa starts off as this typical chubby,…

I had just finished a book by Gy Gavriel Kay that was an outstanding historically based fantasy and though this book was not quite as well realized it was still a great read.

Good plot, excellent character development, lots of action, well-paced. Looking forward to the rest of this series and am glad I didn't discover this author until now as I will not have to wait a year for each instalment!

I love this book! I can't say enough good things about it. The story was incredibly well-written. Princess Elisa just flies off the page, as an insecure princess who is thrown in the middle of a situation she has no idea how to handle.…

The first book of the series, this book was very thought-out and detailed. The characters were very complex, and the plot wasn't too boring, but wasn't hard to follow, either. The magic part made sense too, and was consistent. The romance…

The characters are well drawn and interesting and the story concept has potential. I felt that the ending was rushed, inconsistent magically, and disappointing. The author also belabors the "fat girl" a bit too much, although it is good…

I definitely enjoyed the first half of the book more. For some reason, her constant food talk and cravings, something a lot of reviewers had a problem with, didn't bother me as I had expected. The story is...okay, I guess. I mean, there…

When I picked up this book, I already knew some of my friends liked it. But even their enthusiastic praise of this book did not prepare me for what I read. Spoiler Alerts ahead, if you haven't read the book yet, turn back now This book…

This is the first book in a series set in a world built around Spanish names and traditions laced with magic and belief. Rae Carson is George R.R. Martin-lite and I can't get enough of this 3 book series.

Elisa lives in a world where once a century, someone is chosen by God to do something great. Each person is a part of the prophecy and is born with a Godstone imbedded in their stomach. Elisa is a younger princess who possesses a Godstone.…
