Definitely not one of her best. Superhero Ali Reynolds is just too good to be true and so totally unbelievable as she is in all places at all times always and saving the day. I usually love Jance’s books but this was pretty trite and so unrealistic. Very disappointing.
her name is everywhere, so i tried to read her, several times. there was no depth to anything about her fiction, at best it seemed cleverly contrived. i'd rather read the old classics, than her , any old time. she's the danielle steel of mystery fiction.
Joanna Brady was a single mom and the first woman sheriff in Arizona's old boys club. JP Beaumont was a struggling alcoholic who seemed to only attract women who were bad for him (like his serial killer wife). Poor Ali Reynolds just has to suffer through being rich, beautiful, and famous, and living near her perfect parents and perfect son while her majordomo cooks her meals and does all her housework. I miss the old characters who were interesting and realistic.
A few of the characters are stereotypes, like the pimp. But this complex story weaves two plots together via old friends Sister Anselm and Ali Reynolds who find themselves together in an ICU waiting room. They solve two near-murders that law enforcement is, to begin with, not very interested in, via the connections they find. One of the things I love about Jance is the completeness with which each of her series builds on its own set of characters and its own settings. This one has a bit more action than character development, but for those who already know the characters, it doesn't matter.
Second book I've read by this author. Love her books - exciting and real page-turner.
An Ali Reynolds book. I enjoyed this book very much. Love the characters and a good plot. Read quickly.
Classic Jance, good story, good characters. Not as gripping as some of her efforts, but a worthy rad. If you haven't read her blog at jajance.com do so for good insights.
Ali Reynolds takes a bit of a back seat in this one; at least until the end. The other characters are just as important in this book as the ?main? character which makes it a strong entry in the series I think. Sister Anselm and others take the lead and Ali gets involved a little later and finds herself on the wrong end of a gun at the end. As an added bonus, as the title indicates, some victims don't die! Good book but I had a little trouble keeping the characters straight.
Thrilling and fast-paced action packed read. Kept me interested from front to back. Great read and couldn't put it down. Interesting story line and I loved the way Jance introduced and tied her characters together. Brilliant story on her part. Looking forward to reading more of her titles. Great first selection from the Ali Reynolds series. Definitely recommend it to anyone!
I really enjoy the Ali Reynold stories. I love the way the author interweaves all the characters together. I read this in two days.
Very good read. First Ali Reynolds read, but will read her others. J.A. Jance ISA very down to earth writer.
