I adore the Mary Russell series; falling in love with them my junior year of high school. However, as many other readers have stated, this didn't have the heart-pounding ending or suspense that the last two did. While the novel was still very much worth the read, I'm hoping that the next installment will be a little faster-paced and bring back the Russell and Holmes we all love.

I really MUST be more careful about adding comments about the books I read - I have already read this book and I thought I had given both stars and comment but apparently I did not. It's frustrating to be so excited to receive a new book from my list only to find out it's a repeat! I very much enjoyed this the 1st time around but it was not nearly long enough ago to warrant a 2nd reading.

The third installment of the Mary Russell mystery series is a bit slower and less dynamic than the first two--mostly perhaps because of the newly fixed quality of the Russell/Holmes partnership. Still quite enjoyable, but the series does begin to lose a bit of spark with this book.

One of the more mellow Russel and Holmes installments. Still thoroughly enjoyable, but a bit slower paced, if you know what I mean. Terrific plot though. Ideal to sit down with on a rainy evening with a cup of tea.
