A seaworthy memoir chronicling Nichol's five year sailing adventure and the capsize of both his boat and his marriage. More than the typical adventure tale, the story follows Nichols and his wife's journey on their small wooden boat, Toad, the dissolution of the marriage, and Nichols' solitary return during which he ponders sailing lore and the hidden truths of his marriage, and finally confronts survival. The journey ends as he is rescued from the deck of his sinking boat and delivered to an optimistic but uncertain future. Lacks bibliography and index. A maudlin account of a marriage breakup and the search for meaning in life as the author sails his leaking boat across the Atlantic.

Was the voyage a failed suicide attempt?
