Understandably they are on edge wondering what to say, but there is more to their unease: Diane and Paul, John and Evelyn, and Marge and her husband are perpetually out of circulation with trivial illnesses are all kept together by a mixture of business and cross-marital emotional ties. By the time Colin arrives for tea, their tenseness contrasts dramatically with his air of cheerful relaxation. He is the only happy one among them and his happiness and insensitive analyses of their troubles causes each of them to break down. --Amazon.com
Bedroom Farce takes place in the bedrooms of three married couples during one, long night, Ernest and Delia are celebrating their wedding anniversary after many, many years of marriage; Malcolm and Kate are gearing up to host a party in their new ‘love nest’; while Nick and Jan are trying to cope with Nick’s recent back injury which has left him stuck in bed while Jan goes to Malcolm and Kate’s party without him. Each couple’s relationship has its problems but they are all tested when Trevor and Susannah’s dysfunctional, miserable marital issues are inflicted upon them….in their own bedrooms! Leaving a wave of destruction behind them as they lament on the state of their marriage, Trevor and Susannah ruffle beds, tempers, and routines to try and find their way back to each other. --Adapted from stageagent.com
Absurd Person Singular: In this hysterical farce by acclaimed playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn, three couples navigate the social ladder – climbing and falling – over the course of three ridiculously catastrophic Christmas parties. Off-stage, the most obnoxious guests ever only make matters worse and a barking dog intimidates everyone. Onstage, the couples try desperately to deal with their own relationships, as well as their friends, in very different – and hilarious ways. --Adapted from centralsquaretheater.org
