I have read this book twice once when I was in my 20's and then again when I turned 50. I liked this book tremendously when I was young and I still like it at 50. The only difference is I thought it was scarier the first time 5/5 (popcorn bags) when I was in 20s now 4/5 (popcorn bags). I like Koontz's stories that suddenly swing into full force seemingly within the first few pages or chapter. This is certainly one of those but, it certainly isn't his only similar toned one he has about 35 others that are similar in the fact that they draw you in quite quickly. His other 20 or so books are good too. I put him on the same tier as Stephen King but with less blood n guts
