Has sex with your partner become routine or unfulfilling? Can you say just what you want in bed or let your partner really see you during an orgasm? Spicing up your love life involves more than mood music and clever techniques. Every sexual exchange, from kissing to daring erotic behaviors, is a picture of your entire relationship--a reflection of how you and your partner feel about yourselves, and each other, outside the bedroom. As renowned sex and marital therapist David Schnarch reveals in this revolutionary book, keeping passion and intimacy alive requires facing the anxiety of defining yourself while getting closer to your partner. Sexual encounters provide perfect opportunities to do this and to develop the strength to love deeply.Mixing humor and compassion, Schnarch describes couples' explicit sexual encounters and dramatic therapy sessions to demonstrate how they found personal, marital, and sexual fulfillment far greater than they ever dreamed possible. He goes beyond simply curing sexual dysfunctions to help people achieve their sexual potential. In this invigorating look at adult sex, he seeks to bring out the best in each of us.

This book is not for everyone. It is furthermore open to a raft of criticisms, being at times hokey, blunt, garrish, vain, nebulous, wheedling, over-reaching and repetitive. It's quite the journey. At times you might feel like you're sharing a long hippie bus trip with the John Laroche character from the movie Adaptation, who might also be many of those things, but also brilliant, insightful, upbeat, steeped with knowledge and experience, weirdly wonderful, and never less than totally engaging. A different view of marital dynamics are presented here than default romance. Every page is dense, substantive, and personally challenging, taking non-evasion of self within the intimate context to almost cultish heights. Expect to wrestle on every page with how much of this book to take on board in your own circumstance. I was able to take on about seventy percent, starting from an aggressive stance of putting it out there as part of the intimate process, twice what I've taken from any other book on navigating adult relationships. Note: This book is the complete antithesis of Men Are from Mars by John Gray, the refined-carbohydrate alternative to growing balls. Don't count on liking both.

This book is excellent. It takes you and your partner on a journey of self discovery that allows both of you to be open and honest with yourself and each other. I helps you grow as a person and as a couple. I highly recommend this book.
