They said she was seeing things -- that it was all in her head. After a serious accident, Meg Rittenhouse began to experience hallucinations -- strange, disturbing sights and sounds that couldn't be real. The doctor said her mind was playing tricks on her. All she needed was rest, and the visions would go away. So Meg accepted her cousins' invitation to stay at the old farmhouse in the Pennsylvania countryside, hoping that the change of scenery might help. But the hallucinations only got worse. Eerie black shapes seemed to dance in the shadows, mocking her in the moonlight. And now, Meg is even more terrified, because the caretaker, Andy Brenner, sees them too . . .

This is a spine-tingling ghost story...but I don't really know why. By modern standards, the plot is tame. Still, when I read the book last night every creak and noise became suspect. This is well-written and has just the right amount of horror.
