Burnt-out CIA agent, Milo Weaver, is forced to head into the field one last time. Milo was once a "tourist" - an undercover agent with no home, and no identity. He has since retired and is now a mid-level manager at the CIA's New York headquarters. He's acquired a wife, a daughter, and a brownstone in Brooklyn, and left his old life behind. But when the arrest of a long-sought-after assassin sets off an investigation into one of Milo's oldest colleagues and exposes new layers of intrigue in his old cases, Milo goes back undercover to find out who's holding the strings once and for all.

"They're making comparisons to the classic spy novels of le Carré, Greene, and Deighton - heavy hype, but it's largely justified." - Booklist, starred.

"This story includes a full measure of cynicism, very little humor, and a tender conclusion. Highly recommended for all public libraries." - Library Journal, starred

Definitely complicated. Similar to LeCarre and almost as good. An excellent read.

I really, really liked this. The plot is terrific, although sometimes a bit too intricate, perhaps. The characters were interesting and compelling. I plan to read the rest of the trilogy.

I actually read this because I thought it was the basis for the Johnny Depp film of the same title. Wrong! Different story, though this was readable and full of enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.

Good suspense, reliable plot (something this genre often lacking), and the right amount of action.

One of the best espionage thrillers to come to this reader's attention since John LeCarre's early George Smiley novels. A real treat.

Just couldn't get into this. It was convoluted and sorry to say, a real hard read.

Top notch spy novel. Older spy wants out

The plots & various subplots were so convoluted that on the last page I still wasn't sure what had happened. I am a logical person and enjoy trying to solve twists & turns as I'm reading but this had me almost giving up at times; I persevered and it wasn't worth it.
