A classic example of "The path to true love never did run smooth." I love these books and if you have not read the sequel; The Glass Swallow also by Julia Golding place a hold on that one as well because it is a terrific read!

A great novel. Although at times full of fantasy cliche, the story was executed brilliantly and pulled me right into its world. I'm a bit surprised at how much Golding managed to resolve by the end of the novel; it almost seems as if it should be too much, but somehow she manages to use the final 20 pages to wrap it all up in a satisying way. Once again: a great novel.

this was a really good book. It even had a bit of humour in it. But the face on the cover was really hard to see. But still, I couldn't put it down.

Haha, like everyone else, I loved this book. But I wouldn't necessarily call this my MOST favorite. But, I really did enjoy and admired the story and writing. It covered a lot of major topics, such as war, revenge, religion, peace, slavery, sexism, friendship, (more obviously) love, and probably more but I just can't think of it. I also have to put out that the cover (which I'm disappointed doesn't show up on here) is really awesome. I love how at the top right corner, if you look hard enough, you'll see an eye in the darkness. Cool.

PS: The ending was a little unnerving -- you'll see what I mean when you read it.

The Fourth Crown Princess of the Blue Crescent Islands had sixteen rituals to observe from the moment of waking to when she broke her fast. These included getting out of bed on the right-hand side; turning to the east to bow to the sun; submitting to having her hair groomed with forty strokes from a silver-backed brush by the Under Mistress of the Royal Chamber; and --

Princess Taoshira paused. "What have I forgotten? Goddess rot the etiquette Mistress's rule book. I know there's something else. . . ."
