Badly-told story about characters and their behaviour that we're supposed to accept before we get to know the people at all. The result is unpleasant, bizarre, and (for us) unwatchable; half an hour was more than we wanted to know.

I was pretty repelled by this movie, especially to learn that German men sit with their butt naked on furniture. I don't think I will ever visit Germany, but if I will, I will be very hesitant to sit on upholstered chairs or couches there.

Perhaps these actors are old German porn stars at pretending sexuality; because together with the writer, director, set designer and producer they seem after making up a 21st century new mythology, that sexuality is eternal and shall always remain stuck at age 39, right until death. To believe this film's premise, sexuality (the endocrine systems, etc. ), as if separate from the rest of the physical body, has no normal/average developmental changes that happen to it. There are no depictions of evolution of spirit, sensuality or wisdom, just 39 year old sexuality.
Hmmm -perhaps the author is 39 years old. : -)

As far as I can sense this 'fountain of sexuality' and eternal continuity of physical responsiveness seems to be the goal of this film about aging sexuality and coupling. (If one is compassionate they might say the writer is naive or if one is cynical it might just be to cash in on this decades' trend at depicting elder sensuality as
39 year old sexuality-- that lasts forever. Everybody in this film is trying hard anyway.

This movie could be of interest to anyone not actual an elder themselves, who wants to believe that 'we can stay young forever' just by wanting to or having this intention, and that just because we can live longer with the possibilities of gene therapies and artificial joints and organ transplants, that this will mean that the new elders will never get old, and their being, including their sexuality will never evolve. What a pity that would be.
One can grow up rather than back to early adulthood fantasies and behaviours, that is the thing to look forward to as the reds and golds of autumn turn to the winter days of our lives.

At the age of 67 frumpy housewife Inge has a delayed mid-life crisis and begins an affair with a 76-year old man. When she finally confesses her indiscretion to her husband of thirty years angry tears ensue and she realizes she must make a choice. It’s not that her marriage is terrible, Werner is a kind and gentle mate who is comfortably set in his ways. His idea of a fun evening is listening to recordings of trains and watching the news. Karl, on the other hand, brings a certain amount of excitement to her life....he rides a bike and takes her skinny-dipping. With Karl she rediscovers that fluttery exhilaration of first love which she thought belonged only to the young. Despite a few nicely filmed scenes of geriatric sex, Dresen has simply added a small twist to the old love triangle story. This in no way demeans his film as there is much here to admire. The editing is sharp, the acting superb, and the attention paid to small details adds a great deal to the narrative, whether it’s a ticking clock in a silent bedroom or the sound of a distant train whistle. Ursula Werner portrays Inge with a curious mixture of inner strength and almost child-like vulnerability. I couldn’t feel any sympathy for her character but her inner turmoil was painfully evident. A very well made, if ultimately unremarkable film.

What an eyesore.

I remember when those scenes were not shown; everything was left to our imagination. We knew what was happening.

Now everything in movies is sex and nudism. In this movie, it was an eyesore even worse than when the actors are young. Yuk.

Unusual. It made me angry at first - why, why tell this story, why would the characters live this way? But months after I first saw this I find myself thinking about the characters again and again. I especially think about how often in relationships one party puts aside their own growth, or passions in order to keep the relationship going. Is it best to stay together or to live true to one's own loves? Does it always have to be an either this or that? Lots of food for thought here.

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", but the elderly are naked and having sex! Well, not quite, but this is a very good movie. The performances are wonderful, particularly the lead actress, Ursula Werner, who is outstanding. You do not lose passion as you age, and it is never too late to make a significant change in your life. But, beware, if you make changes, there will be unintended consequences.

A great story about how the choices we make affect other lives, regardless of how old we are. Yes, there is some sex, but frankly, that is not the focus of the movie. I would recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys movies with a twist. Has a sad ending but probably predictable...

Quite a different love story in that the characters are in their 60's and 70's. I appreciated this film for addressing love in the older years. There is quite a bit of sexuality which is shocking because I think society believes that older persons don't have sex anymore. The movie shows that even if you are in your late 60's, you can still be caught by the love bug. There may be hope!!

what should have been a sweet love story between two older people played out like a very bad porn
with the first hour of the film being
filled with nudity of two seniors "going at it" , something with did not present a very pleasing image.

I do not understand why the director felt the need to present us images of an old woman with sagging boobs nor the continued explicit and graphically pornographic display of these two wrinkled seniors having sex in multiple scenes.

The story could have been presented with much more finesse and still get the message of their passion across without having to involve pornography
in the film in which they did. I feel this was completely unnecessary and made what could have been a good tender film for "all " ages to enjoy into a somewhat disgusting one.
