Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, Downton Abbey portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them. In the drawing rooms, library, and beautiful bedrooms, with their tall windows looking across the park, lives the family, but below stairs are other residents, the servants, as fiercely possessive of their ranks as anyone above.

So I thought I'd get a big let down in season 2 so I can go back to watching my action hero flicks. Wrong again. I'm totally, completely, and unashamedly addicted to this series now. And proud to admit it. Forget the he-man stuff. Downton Abbey is GREAT.

I resisted watching this series for a long time because...well...how can watching a bunch of aritocrats going about their daily lives be of any interest? That'd equate to watching paint dry or grass grow...BUT...was I ever wrong.

I was hooked from the first episode, despite my preference for no-dialogue-action-hero movies. Great cinematography, characters, storyline, performers, and everything else you could think of to make a great tv show/movie. A must watch.

WWI is ending; this disc continues the many relationships at Downton, including Lord Grantham himself being tempted. The Spanish flu affects several characters. Thomas remains his manipulative self.

Perhaps my first incursion into the life of English nobility in the early 1900s, Downton Abbey certainly converted me. A great peek into the lives of both the nobility and their servants. Who knew how difficult and prestigious it was to be an upper ranking servant! The show also offers a unique look into the relationships between the upstairs and downstairs classes.

Downton Abbey has created what is quite possibly the perfect formula of television for my tastes. I cared about the characters in a way that I rarely do for other shows. I felt their pain and took joy in their victories. The stakes in Downton Abbey are very real. But the show isn't all doom and gloom! Romance is abound. Top that off with the quips of Lady Violet (Maggie Smith is in top form) and Carson's stern yet teddybear-esque demeanor and we have a wonderfully well-rounded show.

Great drama about British culture with an upstairs / downstairs perspective. The Earl and his family (upstairs) live in a fancy mansion and indulge in all sorts of silly scheming. The folk downstairs; servants, cooks, valets, etc. have their own drama and scheming going on. Maggie Smith is brilliant as the old Auntie. The Earl is trying to figure out who can inherit the fancy estate under a restrictive will, the silly daughters are rather clueless. Great acting ensemble! Series 1 starts with the sinking of the Titanic, Series 2 starts off with WWI. Excellent, interesting show. If you missed it while it was on t.v. (like me) be sure to watch the these DVDs.

So much silly fun! Rated G - educational! All historically accurate - and then there is Maggie Smith at her best!

I too never watched it while it was running and decided to see what all the fuss was about. I'm actually glad I waited to see it on dvd because then I don't have to wait too long to see the next episode! What a WONDERFUL program. Maggie Smith is incomparable (as always). I love the humor and the drama. I'm only on Season 2 and have Seasons 3 and 4 on hold (good thing I'm on vacation this week). This will be a program I'll need to purchase so I can enjoy it more than once.

My friends watch this show a lot and I never used to. I decided to give it a try and see why they loved it so much and I can see why. This show is amazing!!! Definitely one of my top favorites. The acting is very good and I like how they focus on both floors of the household. The servants and the wealthy. It adds fun twists to the story. I am already through season three. Yay!!! So sad that it is finished it was a good show.

Please make sure to watch the Episode titled "Christmas At Downton Abbey" on disc 3. I thought it was a special feature, and was going to skip it, but it is, in fact, the season finale, and extremely important
