How does a Planned Parenthood Clinic Director, 8 years, in Texas, (Abby Johnson) over time, come to change her mind on evaluating the medical actions, and immense economic profits, as gained by the business-industry-profitability of abortion procedures. ?
The "how" of that intellectual and emotional "change" occurs, ---slowly, over time, --- thru experiences at the Clinic, especially while inside the milieu of the Clinic's "parts laboratory." Johnson's descriptions of how she resisted "change" was a process of being willing to starkly "see" biological reality and economic profits; gallows humor and aggressive staff;
This story, Unplanned, is the true insight into Abby Johnson's personal, and authentically vulnerable story. Real Life. Must have taken alot of guts to reveal the story.

Very important -- Her followup book, .... 17 stories by employees at Planned Parenthood or Abortion Clinics:
(And how were some of the women patients treated by Clinic staff?)

At times this wasn't an easy account to read, it downright made me heart sick for lack of a better term. Especially when you get an insight to the inner workings of planned parenthood and what they're really about. I so appreciated the author's honesty about her entire journey towards the pro-choice movement to her slow awakening and crossing over to the pro-life movement. Her story is a remarkable one, and her writing is so descriptive you feel like you're on the journey with her as she tells it in this book. As a pro-lifer myself it encourages me to be more compassionate to those in the pro-choice movement, to bring light rather than heat to this topic.

I was inspired how the pro-lifers she knew never really cut her off or gave her the cold shoulder even when they knew what she did for a living. I believe that love and kindness offered by pro-lifers was used by God no doubt. I wasn't so shocked when many on the pro-choice side, some who were close friends, turned on her once she defected. Even trying to set her up. If someone is "pro-choice" I would hope they would see that the pro-lifers (most of us) aren't as intolerant or mean as they make us out to be. It's very telling though how planned parenthood went after the author once she "defected," and just how much they had to lie about her in order to protect what exactly they do and how they go about it. Reminds me of a verse...... "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

All in all I kept thinking her story is like many of ours. All of us at one time have been lost in our sinful way, and we probably thought it was a really good way too. And when God shows up to reveal the truth we had to move in his direction because we knew our way was a lie. Be it our salvation story, or a story of where we needed to repent once we finally saw what we were doing.

In regards to owning her sin she writes.....

"Jesus took upon Himself the weight of the world's sin on the cross. I cannot fathom such a weight. Yet I had a sense of the weight of the lives of my two unborn children and thousands of others I had willingly forfeited at the hands of abortionist. But Christ didn't stay on the cross. He arose. And that is what I experienced that night. Once I truly owned the weight that night, I gave it to Jesus Christ at the fence. And He lifted it off my shoulders and off my soul. As I looked upon the building between the bars of the fence, I knew that it was here that God called me out. I was not only facing the place of my sin. I was facing the place of my deliverance as well."

Author Abby Johnson had had two abortions. She went to work for Planned Parenthood and rose to become director of a clinic.
--- Abby accepted the PP ideology: A pregnant woman does not carry a baby, but rather has a condition (pregnancy) which the clinic remedies. The doctor does not perform an abortion, but only a "procedure" that "terminates the pregnancy." After the procedure, the doctor will check to make sure all of the "pregnancy" was removed.
--- Year round in heat and cold, Coalition For Life protesters kept a vigil at the clinic fence. The PP staff mocked them, but felt intimidated by a silent nun who came to kneel and pray.
--- PP sought to portray demonstrators as woman-enslaving extremists. But at Abby's clinic, they were gentle and sympathetic. They frequently called out friendly greetings as she entered the building. A woman who seemed especially concerned for Abby once gave her a bouquet. Eight years of this treatment had its effect on Abby.
--- One day Abby saw the mother of a pregnant woman begging her daughter for the life of her grandchild, offering to raise the grandchild herself -- all for naught.
--- The clinic relied on abortion revenue, which Abby was ordered to increase: "Abortion
quotas have been raised -- Make abortion the priority -- Nonprofit is a tax status, not a
business status."
--- Abby worked at the clinic administratively for eight years without ever assisting in an
abortion. When she finally did, she was shocked. On the ultrasound she saw a perfect little body trying to get away, being violently twisted, crumpled, the little spine just sucked away, p 149. She knew she had just participated in a death. Not a medical procedure, not a woman exercising her right to make medical choices about her own body, but the death of a helpless baby, to be discarded as biohazard waste, p 124. She had scheduled countless babies for death, and presented options, surgery or medication, for the safety and comfort of the mother -- and all the while a tiny baby tucked securely inside a womb had been there in the same room, with no one to speak on his or her behalf, p 124.
--- She concluded that "Planned Parenthood was an abortion machine in the business of
killing unborn babies and meeting revenue goals," p 130. Planned Parenthood spoke of
choosing when to have a child. But if you're pregnant, you HAVE a child. The opposition had been right all along. Abby decided to leave PP and join them.
--- The Christians who had treated Abby sympathetically for years, knowing she was their
main opponent, now welcomed her with rejoicing and helped her find a new job. National
TV shows interviewed her.
--- To counter the bad publicity from this high-level defection, PP turned on Abby vengefully. Without any foundation, PP accused her of revealing private patient information, sued her, got a restraining order to silence her, and forced other staff to give perjured testimony against her. The Christians provided an attorney who soundly defeated the suit.
--- Abby joined those who went to pray at the clinic fence. Many women who had had
abortions supported her. She concludes with the hope that other PP staff will be able to
escape as she did.

The best book on abortion and Planned Parenthood I have seen so far. Not only is this a good view of the two sides of the abortion debate, everything that goes on in the book goes on now and everywhere. This is a page-turner that captivated me and everyone I referred it to. Guaranteed to blow your mind and change your heart. A must-read!
