Dogs have been domesticated for longer than any other animal on the planet, and humans have developed a unique relationship with these furry friends. New research is revealing what dog lovers have suspected all along, that dogs have an uncanny ability to read and respond to human emotions. How did this incredible relationship between humans and dogs come to be? And how can dogs, so closely related to fearsome wild wolves, behave so differently? It's all in the genes.

I was very impressed with this documentary's sound explanation of the human-dog bond, and of domestication.

This is a 56-minute documentary about the human-dog relationship produced and directed by Dan Child in 2010 for NOVA.

Brilliantly done documentary. I've been disappointed by many documentaries I've seen lately which seem to be 'reality tv' inspired. This wasn't. This was exactly what a documentary should be: Fascinating. Coherent. Educational. Filled with good science and all the while being entertaining. I learned. I smiled. Even laughed. Worth your time.

A really great video which summarizes all the research that currently exists about dogs: their origins, how they might have attached themselves to humans, how they communicate with humans, and how a wild dog becomes tame. A lot of fun to watch.

My husband and I have the best (2 year old) "puppy" around! We absolutely loved this DVD as it showed how our pup can read our emotions, and shows how breeding made the grey wolf into such a gentle, loving creature like the one I have snuggled up against me as I type this. Very interesting documentary on dogs.
