Eight Keys was one of my favourite books in elementary school, there was a lot of material and mystery to solve in this story of average best friends Elise and Franklin. Elise has become used to living with her Uncle and Aunt in the big house with the barn behind that encloses eight locked doors. When middle school begins Elise and Franklin become wary of themselves but Elise finds a new way to busy herself when she receives a key to one of the doors for her 12th birthday. So begins a mystery and scavenge to open all the eight doors and uncover the message her father has left for her. A great story for the younger audiences for coming of age and the power of ‘together’.

This book didn't work as well for me with the structure of 8 keys which needed to say something -- I could definitely relate to the friendship angle with the weird but true friend. Good exploration of friendship and blending and adding on friends. As in all of her books I've read so far the adult substitute parents are very supportive and tender. I honestly envy someone being able to take that for granted.

Great story for middle school kids who are lost in life. Heartwarming story about friendship and family. Tied with a fun mystery that keeps readers turning pages to find out more!
