At first this book didn't interest me much, but it did at the end. This book is filled with amazing twists and turns that I've never seen applied to any books. If I could choose I wanted to be an Aviar the other choices frightens me, and I definitely don't want to live in the desert or under the ocean.

A very good book for middle school readers! My favorite character was Hoku. At first I wasn't all too crazy about him, but then he grew on me. Second book doesn't really relate to the first so much, but I know the third will.

It is the future and the world and people we are used to have disappeared. Due to over-population, humans have been forced to use technology to adapt to living under the ocean, in the deserts and in the sky. However, greed and cruelty still exist and the generators allowing the under sea dwellers to breathe are being shut down and the people are dying. 13-year-old Aluna decides to go to “above world” (land) to try to find help for her people. She must depend on the friendship and loyalty of old friends and new if she is to succeed. This is a great book if you enjoy science-fiction. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
