One of my most favorite children's fantasy series. Colin Meloy has created girl and boy characters that could live just down the street from us, a fantasy world that he allows us to gently enter, with animal characters that could be our neighbors too. And he offers it all up with a rich vocabulary. Recommend this series to your avid readers.

Love this book! Finally there is a book for tweens that actually has sense and big words that develop a great story. For two glorious days I became instantly wrapped up in this marvel of a novel. I easily related to Prue and Curtis. The book was wonderful in all it's whimsicality. Great author, and the crazy thing is, I just read a book right before made by his SISTER, Maile. What a coincidence! A must-read for advanced readers.

This is an amazing tale of friendship and courage as the characters are pulled into the mysteries and battles in Wildwood, the impassable wilderness. This book may be better for kids 9 plus, it may be difficult for younger kids to get into. A fictional story like this probably won't interest most people over the age of 14. This story is great for both boys and girls.

Any Decemberists fan will love this book! It's a weird story with big words, talking animals, and bearded bandits. And it takes place in Portland. Basically, it's a really long Decemberists song.

This took me forever to finish, but trust me, it's definitely worth it in the end. Always kept me guessing, and even when I was almost finished, I had no idea what the end would be like. It has just the right balance of love, mystery, darkness, unworldliness, and even a little bit of fun, and it stuck with me for a while after I finished.

I wish I could go to Wildwood!

The scene which I think is the most unworldly, is when Prue's younger brother Mac is kidnapped by a huge flock of birds. This creates a very intense visual that sticks with you for a long time after finishing the book.
This is one of my favourite books that owns a place on my shelf.

A girl named Prue journeys into the Impassable Wilderness, a dense maze of a forest outside her hometown of Portland, Oregon, in order to retrieve her brother--with an awkward classmate named Curtis tagging along. Due to some misfortune involving coyotes decked out in military uniforms, the two children must separately navigate this strange world where talking animals uneasily coexist with humans who have never met anyone from the outside. A revolution is about to happen, and Prue and Curtis quickly find themselves on opposite sides.

I thought the author did a really good job in this book. Is great for kids who love action and adventure as well as a little bit of drama although I must warn you it's a bit dark at times. The characters and their stories are really interesting to learn about. Of characters the characters that are in this book are phenomenal.

Hi! I thought this book was really great. At first it was kind of slow and it sounded like it was fancy words and a nutty ( in a good way) story made without the authors heart really into it. Am I making sense? well anyways, it speeds up, and turns out pretty awesome! its a really great adventure that will make you feel like you are really there. I hope you enjoy it like I did. :)
