Welcome to the X-Men's first year. Professor Charles Xavier has recruited five of the most powerful mutants he's ever seen, in order to save a world that hates and fears them. But there's only one problem - they're teenagers who have to survive hormones and uncontrollable super-powers, all while fighting for their very lives. So right now's the perfect time for Magneto & the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, along with the Sentinels, Unus the Untouchable and more to make their bids for control of the world, right?

The X-Men get the Young Avengers treatment. It's fun and forgettable, except for that Mckelvie art which is, as always, out of this world. Worth checking out for that alone.

Modernized origin story with our original five X-Men: Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Jean Grey. Our POV character is Jean, being the newest arrival and only girl at Professor X's school. There's a lot of teenage problems here, love triangles and friendship issues, but at the same time there are mutant power problems and that level of grey area between Professor X's side and Magneto's side. Not too much here for me but it's not a bad primer if you are totally new to the world. Also included is Uncanny X-Men #1 (2011), with Cyclops's extinction team and the schism with everybody else. Neat for me but new readers may be floundering with that issue.

A decent reimagining of the forming of the original X-Men updated for modern readers. The second half of the book was a preview of a single published issue, Scott introducing his Extermination Team. Both stories were decent but not outstanding.
