I read this book a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't put it down. This book truly is the days and nights to Mary, Queen of Scots at just over 400 pages. Carolyn Meyer has done it again, and made an amazing novel to read.

Meyer is a clever writer and does a good job at pitching to young adults. As a senior who has read more academic versions of Mary Queen of Scots, I thoroughly enjoyed the focus on her development as a child in the French Court and then skipping quickly through the battles and intrigue of her reign to the final scene waiting to be executed. Meyer brought home, as other authors have not, the betrayal of the naïve queen who was a tool to power by the men in her extended family. Well done, and worth the read, with a unique focus on the mind and psychology of a developing, sheltered young woman who will make some tragic decisions and change the course of history in the British Isles.

This book was incredibly hard for me to get into, so hard in fact, that I couldn't finish it. This was more due to the fact that it didn't suit my personal reading tastes than anything else. I got through the first half, and she was still a child...I don't care to read about children. So I feel like any opinion I could give more than this would be unfairly biased.
