This book was an interesting look at some of the cultural traditions that come from Islamic families, but more importantly it was a book about learning to be comfortable with yourself and accept yourself despite what other people think.

Aliya has trouble figuring out where she fits in at school and how to balance her Western school notions with her Islamic upbringing. Two projects, one at school and one from her Sunday school teacher and the appearance of a new student who wears hijab make Aliya start really examining who she is.
