Warning: the back cover promises a lighthearted romp, and the first third of the book is indeed a lighthearted romp. But then, very abruptly, things take a very dark turn. I didn’t like that. However, Herbach does an excellent job of making the transition, and the story is very sweet and redemptive. Deciding between a number of football scholarships, a senior in high school tries to survive his senior year when demons from his past (figurative demons) attack him. Apparently this is a sequel to Stupid Fast, which I won’t read; this book stands on its own easily (a plus for any sequel).
