Christine Quinn, candidate for mayor of New York City, is the first female and first openly LGBT Speaker of the New York City Council. In her memoir, With Patience and Fortitude, she shares the inspiring story of her life, her career, and the city she loves.

Speaker Quinn talks about growing up in a middle-class, Irish family and describes the people and events that have shaped who she is and the beliefs she has dedicated her life to fight for. After her mother died when Christine was 16 years old, she began carving her own path, setting her sights on work that would make a difference in the world. Yet she would ultimately have to face coming of age in a world where both women and gay people had no choice but to fight for their dreams.

Over time, she met those challenges both personal and professional with patience and with fortitude. Christine Quinn's memoir includes original black-and-white photos from her personal archive.

Christine Quinn: Her politics love and struggle
‘With Patience and Fortitude’

She will be the first female mayor of New York City if she gets elected in September next. She is one of the prominent LGBT figures in the US politics, happily married and lives with her wife in NY and her marriage was a huge media event in 2012. Christine Quinn, the Speaker of the New York City Council, published an autobiographical book ‘With Patience and Fortitude’ in 2013 and it is not an ordinary political memoir.
Christine Quinn narrated her childhood, wrote distinctly about her politics and made a strong impression of her involvement in the city life. Moreover, she described all the milestones of LGBT rights movement in New York and its (New York) achievements in establishing gay rights. Certainly, New York is the most gay-friendly city in the world.
A very high-profile same-sex marriage it was and as a writer Christine Quinn described her wedding with her longtime partner Kim Catullo with adequate elaboration and passion and readers could grasp the spirits and enthusiasm of a bride and a politician. Her book could be referred as short note on LGBT rights and however she personally became a reference in the history of LGBT.
I recommend this book to my friends and the New Yorkers.
