In my opinion, this is the best "Christmas Carol" ever made and I love the music in it. It is a musical. This movie spoiled me for any other version!

Great Christmas movie, that really shines Charles Dickinson's tale. A must see for the entire family!

This is the best adaption of "A Christmas Carol" I have ever seen! (It is better than the George C. Scott version-- in my opinion.) The music adds to the story, and the actors did a marvelous job! The sets are wonderfully designed, and the story follows the actual book very closely. Great songs such as, "I Like Life", "Thank You Very Much", and "December the 25th" will be sure to delight the audience. This is a must see!

Albert Finney as Scrooge is a winner!! You will be surprised that this version is a musical, which since the music is not memorable, does get in the way. I recommend this Scrooge because at Christmas their is such a demand for holiday films for the family. There are many holiday films, but this is one of the few good ones that I can recommend.

The "show tunes" may not be memorable, but the rest of this film is. This was broadcast a few time during the 70's on TV and since that was the only time I saw this, I never realized how heavily editted it was for TV. Even after Alec Guiness won new recognition after Star Wars, an entire scene with him was never shown on TV, and we didn't have VCRs then. That scene blows my mind because it has nothing to do with the Dicken's story, but is Scrooge and Marley in Hell! and Marley is kind of ticked Scrooge Bah Humbugged him earlier. I still love that this is the only Christmas Carol to feature the hearse, which is just an amazing addition to this film.

one of the best renditions of a holiday classic. oscar-nominated performance by albert finney as ebenezer scrooge and a strong supporting cast with wonderful sets. the film is, however, a musical and should be bypassed for those who do not like musicals at all costs! similar to charles dickens' Oliver in look and feel, so if you loved Oliver, you will love Scrooge.

Fair - Scrooge (1970) 113 min. Albert Finney plays Ebenezer Scrooge in this musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Beautiful set designs and good story elevate this film despite poor musical numbers that are forgettable as grandma’s fruit cake. Without the songs, the film would’ve been recommended.
