This is the first book I've read that really describes my child's behaviour. I really took a lot from the author's perspective. And I disagree with whoever said the author's intention is to push medication. This book is worth a read to form your own opinion.

The intent of this book is to medicate children who are considered inflexible or difficult. If you examine chapter 9 the author recommends stimulants, antidepressantd and the most toxic drug Risperdal, an antipsychotic drug that will crush your child’s spirit and life. There is no evidence of brain dysfunction or disability. It is a smokescreen. If your child is out of control read Ritalin Is Not The Answer by David Stein. If you like collaboration methods, read How to Tslk to Your Kids So They Will Listen. This book includes expectations or consequences for bad behavior, in addition to respectful dialogue which all children need to learn.

There are too many anecdotal stories which take up about two thirds of the book. I found they were far too specific to be relevant to my child. I ended up skimming to nearly the end to get to the "meat" of the book. The solutions presented were quite vague. There were a few good points but the book could have been summarized in one chapter. I wish someone would make a Cole's Notes version of this.

If you have an explosive child--- and you will know if you do--- these techniques can help calm the storms. Very clear, thorough explanations of why your child is misbehaving. Careful explanation of how to work with them to resolve their frustrations (and yours!)
A life-changing book.
