A book that will appeal to Janeites and quite possibly no one else. Sullivan has pulled together the cover art of Austen's novels (as well as some of her other incomplete writings) in a collection organized by era. Fans of Austen's novels will likely get a great deal of entertainment from viewing the diverse ways publishers have marketed Austen's books to the reading public over time. Sullivan's descriptions and comments on the covers are brief and interesting, with an occasional dash of humour for some of the more ridiculous images. A book that can easily be flipped through or read straight through, it provides an interesting review of an understudied aspect of Austen's works.
