If you are on Facebook, or surf the Web, or shop online, or are considering ever buying insurance or applying for a job, this book is a must-read. Fertik has a revelatory view of the way all of us have data out there, so that we are participating in a hidden economy based on our data whether we ask for it or not. This goes beyond letting the old embarrassing pictures on Facebook tarnish our image, or having targeted ads emerge in our browser with startling accuracy, but in Fertik's view gets to the heart of how we can be "scored" on our reputation based on all sorts of online traces.
The good news is that we have some control over the digital "reputation score" that the reputation search engines of the near-future will use, and the book concludes with practical suggestions.
