What is a flash fiction called in other countries? In Latin America it is a micro, in Denmark kortprosa, in Bulgaria mikro razkaz. These short shorts, usually no more than 750 words, range from linear narratives to the more unusual: stories based on mathematical forms, a paragraph-length novel, a scientific report on volcanic fireflies that proliferate in nightclubs. Flash has always--and everywhere--been a form of experiment, of possibility. A new entry in the lauded Flash and Sudden Fiction anthologies, this collection includes 86 of the most beautiful, provocative, and moving narratives by authors from six continents, including best-selling writer Etgar Keret, Zimbabwean writer Petina Gappah, Korean screenwriter Kim Young-ha, Nobel Prize winner Czeslaw Milosz, and Argentinian "Queen of the Microstory" Ana Mar#65533;a Shua, among many others. These brilliantly chosen stories challenge readers to widen their vision and celebrate both the local and the universal.

OK. In-a-flash - Here's my opinion about "Flash Fiction".

In this frivolous day & age of fast-food, instant information, and super-short attention spans - What else could possibly be more fitting than to now have "flash" fiction added to the menu? - I mean - What's next? Flash Poetry?... Dog Bog... Hog Log (?)

With each of these 86 stories written in 750 words, or less - Believe me - Once you've read their first 2 sentences, then you're sure to know exactly what the last 2 sentences are going to be - Instantly.

If you ask me - I'd say that each of these tales all had such an annoying "sameness" to them that I swear they were written, one and all, by the same person - (But, apparently they're not).

And so, with that in mind - I think that this whole "Flash Fiction" business is nothing but a clever scam invented by its author (who wrote all of these padded-out paragraphs) as a means of selling his/her book to a gullible and naive public who are seeking something new and trendy. Yep. That's what I think.

(*Watch the "Go Solo" music-video (4 stars) which has nothing, in any way, to do with this book*)
