The D-I-Y furniture ideas presented in this book range from the beautiful and functional to the ugly and impractical (or dangerous). Although the designs are presented as relatively simple to build, many require advanced wood- and metal-working skills and tools. This guide concludes with a bibliography, an Imperial-metric conversion chart, and an index.

This feels like enviro-porn. It's designed to look and feel clever and to sit on people's bookshelves next to a copy of "the Story of Stuff", with the owner unaware that they have just accumulated more stuff. Some of the ideas are clever, must have the distinct look of requiring more output than simply buying an equivalent item at the store. Sadly this feels designed to make people feel noble while letting them avoid actually effecting real change. Still, the concept is neat and I'm glad to have read it, but I'd feel dirty if I owned it.

I applaud the concept of taking "rubbish" items and crafting them into usable objects; A great deal of the projects in this book could use a wee bit of refinement, in my opinion.

Really a neat book! I can't say I loved every project but there are quite a few that made me wish I were more handy.
