A moving story about the importance of not judging others by appearance or through gossip --a valuable tale in the age of social media and anonymous criticism. It also weaves in interesting facts about the life of VanGogh. It's a very good read aloud to accompany a unit on bullying, values education, or explaining character traits such as perseverance, kindness, empathy and respect.

This is not a picture book about Vincent Van Gogh, but rather one about bullying and looking down upon those who are different from the perspective of a fictional child in Arles who participated in the bullying of the painter who later regrets his actions. It provides an important lesson and will hopefully spark important conversations with children about their own actions and treatment of others.
