Post-singlurity? Check. Trans/Post humans? Check. God-like capricious AI? Check. Closed timelike curve? Yesterday. Inscrutable alien uploads? Check. Backwards near feudalistic society? Check.

Using his own works the best comparison would be to think of this as a kind of bastard child of Accelerando/Glass House and the Merchant Princes series. If you liked the former and not the latter you'll still really enjoy this book. If you enjoyed the latter and not the former this one might be too weird for you, like that one uncle who turns into a casual racist at family functions after a few drinks weird.

If you didn't like either of them, first off what's wrong with you, and secondly you might want to switch to a different genre of books or go with more vanilla authors.
