One year ago, Penny was the star of her high school's theater department, surrounded by a group of misfits, and on the cusp of falling for her best friend, Wes. Now, Penny is a shoo-in for homecoming queen. Her old friends won't talk to her, Wes ignores her, and her best friend is the most popular girl in school. Penny is revered--and hated. In one year, she's changed so much that her old life is almost unrecognizable. But in a flash, a near-fatal lightning strike leaves Penny with no memory of the past year--or how she went from drama nerd to queen bee. As a record number of fireflies light up her town and her life, Penny realizes she may have the second chance she never expected--and that even if she can't change the past, she can learn to see the magic where she never could before. -- from dust jacket.

This story was cute overall but very cliché and predictable near the ending. There were some grammatical errors, and I didn’t really like how everything fell into place a mere few pages right after everything seemed to fall apart for the protagonist. I liked the fact that there were mentions of swarms of fireflies in their city, but was confused as to what these lightning bugs had to do with the plotline itself, other than just being there. A short, enjoyable light read but don’t expect too much.

I do not understand the main character Penny. She does not want her friends to know about the problems at home, so she switches groups of friends. She becomes the ice queen and hangs out with a new crowd.
The friendships and changes in her personality don't correlate with the story line.
