I love the shout-out to Russian folklore and the Russian words scattered throughout. The story is rich, and layered, and the characters are the same. This is a great book for upper elementary fairy-tale and fantasy lovers.

Started to pick up around halfway through the book, but the ending was fantastic!

Imagine being adopted by Baba Yaga! Could you trust that she wouldn't eat you? Exciting, mysterious, and adventurous. Grades 4-8

Orphan Mary Hayes finds herself surrounded by magical beings from Russian folklore -- the scariest is Madame Z, who wants to "adopt" her! Fans of fairy tales will enjoy this twist on the originals.
