The author decides to follow the lives of people who are all uneducated and have several of the following:
Criminal past
Anger issues/don’t play well with others
Homeless
Drug and/or alcohol problems...
Basically, people who have a hard time keeping a job even in mediocre conditions, who decide to travel to the Wild West (Williston) in search of the Big Pot of Gold.

Any guesses how it’s going to work out for all these people?

I’d skip this book unless you enjoy reading about Losers, who continue to make poor choices/decisions.
