This mystery/thriller film is set in the Victorian era and follows a detective as they try to solve the case of a serial killer who has been killing violently and leaving gruesome bloody notes behind. Even though the actors did a great job at portraying their characters, things were just too boring to watch and the storyline was quite lackluster. The movie failed to create a sense of mystery or thrill and it felt like you were just watching a group of characters having various casual conversations. I would rate this movie 2.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like serial killer movies that aren’t scary. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

An expensive looking film with decent cast, period costumes and rich theater set. Nighy played a detective who followed his nose investigating a series of gruesome murders in seedy Limehouse in Victorian London. In the process, he nosed into another suspicious death case, the husband of a music-hall star... hence he and us were led by the nose from clue to clue and suspect to suspect until the film ended. Okay then. However, some biting dialogues on social ills during Victorian times.

While I wouldn't consider this film to be any kind of masterpiece of cinema, it was a fun period piece with plenty of twists and turns. A depraved murderer stalks a London suburb, and the investigation draws Inspector Kildare into the colorful and depraved world of Victorian music halls. It's an over-the-top adventure full of dark secrets and darker deeds. The plot isn't particularly unpredictable or nuanced and none of the characters suffer an abundance of depth, but it's an enjoyable movie with plenty of memorable moments.

Directed by Juan Carlos Medina in 2016 based on the novel "Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem" by Peter Ackroyd, this British horror-mystery depicts the investigation of the horrific murders.
In 1880---before Jack the Ripper---the city of London was gripped with fear as a serial killer dubbed the Limehouse Golem remained on the loose while leaving cryptic messages written in the victims' blood.
Scotland Yard assigns the case to Inspector Kildare to solve it.
Amazingly, you'll see Karl Marx in the reading room of the British Museum.
You'll see such a lot of red herrings that you might get confused.
Out of the blue, however, the case appears clear before your eyes, and you might suddenly get stupified and unsatisfied.

Bill Nighy is one of the greatest actors in the world. The cast that accompanies him is fantastic in this story. The set, the costumes, are all wonderful. Though you can see the end coming it still is a interesting story. I must admit I am swayed by Bill Nighy and find all of his projects entertaining, he is just such a good actor.

This was a strange one. I was thinking it would be sort of a Ripper Street kind of movie. Rest assured, it was not. Don't really understand why Bill Nighy got himself mixed up in this thing.
