I have extremely mixed emotions about this book...maybe I should have read it before watching the Netflix series or I wouldn't be as jaded. Overall, the Netflix series, surprisingly, is much better than the book. Maybe I just couldn't get into the book as the situations weren't as serious as in the series or maybe the portrayals were so vivid on film that the book just couldn't compare. I can understand why many parents and also some kids object to this book since the main character justifies her suicide based on the actions of others. On the plus side, if just 13 Reasons makes just one kid rethink their behavior toward a struggling classmate, reach out instead to standing by when someone is mistreated, then this novel has proved it's value.
