This was a lousy book. If young girls find this interesting they need to get outside and meet real people who actually think and deal with real issues. The author had some fascinating and rich settings for her book. The political, social, moral and religious complexities could make for a fascinating story. Instead she abandons the stage she sets and follows the immature and adolescent insecurities of a girl who wouldn't survive a power outage let alone a struggle for survival and flight from an oppressive regime. Ember doesn't act like a 17 year old but more like a 12 year old. A weak effort for a first time author.
