Considering the subject mattter, this film was nearly devoid of emotion. Patrick Wang, the lead (and the director/writer) was particularly wooden. Given that his partner was killed in a car accident, and the child he raised as his son was taken away from him, you would think he might show some pain. But no, he plays this part like he's reading the script for the first time (and he wrote it!). I kept wondering, why is he talking like that? Is he all bottled up and soon to explode? But no, that didn't happen. At nearly 3 hours long, this makes for a very tedious film experience. A better film with a similar storyline is Any Day Now with Alan Cumming. Though not without its flaws, it does at least show the emotional pain that such loss can cause.
