Undead With Benefits is the second book in a series that is a sharp contrast to other zombie stories. It starts off in the light-hearted and honest point of view of a teenager whose brains are slowly being zombified. He and his girlfriend are joined by an equally teenage psychic who is far from all-knowing and has a few problems of her own. Together, they make their way towards the book's climax in refreshingly alternating serious and funny chapters. While it explores the alien environment known as a quirky male teenager's brain, this book also contains moral dilemma and difficult decisions. Basically, three teenagers thrown onto a strange world where the government is attempting to hide the existence of zombies are trying to figure something-anything-out. This book is a whole new side to the whole 'undead' situation. I enjoyed the fact that the author was able to put zombies in a situation other than an apocalypse, because as suspenseful as they may be, zombie apocalypses are dangerously cliché. Whether you like zombies, fiction, humour, or just want to read something different, you should give this book, and the one before it, a go. Just keep in mind that the characters are not geniuses, and will not always make perfect choices. But then, what's a good book without a few problems to be solved?
