I have read many of Burke's offerings and this is a very poor example of his writing. His flawed detective often has visions and is a recovering alcoholic but in this outing he is simply used as a pointer to get people killed as he blunders about. The ending makes no sense as some sort of divine act apparently intervenes to save his adopted daughter. Makes you wonder where the divine act was for all the other victims. Skip this one.
